Marco Billi aka Jarguna @ Etsy
Marco Billi's Etsy shop, Jarguna, was the find of the year for me in 2019. Besides offering some rare and unusual raw materials for both incense and perfumery, he's a bit of a renaissance man. He creates music, founds co-ops, travels the world looking for exquisite materials to share, and he's humble.
From the latest batch of materials I received from Jarguna came the eo's of:
Kerala patchouli
Oooh! Lovely clean, crisp, slightly musky, balsamic, woody -- really woody! There's an intense honey sweetness to it as well, which pulls it away from the weird, breath-catching dustiness of many patchouli oils. This is a lovely, grand patchouli oil!
Buddha wood
The scent of this buddha wood oil is complex and surprising. Very rich and balsamic with an unexpected flash of ginger. The scent is warm and rich, sweet, reminiscent of leather goods and moss and resinous woods.
Roman chamomile
Horse kick in the face! Strong fruity, apple note, spicy (think airy spices like fennel or carrot seed), baby's breath, and green tea. Just stunning!
Helichrysum italicum
Fennel, curry, honey, a bit of windswept hillside, pinch of tonka bean -- in a word: Luscious.
